Start with the voucher issuer and the property address
The agency that issued your voucher may not be the agency that administers a proposed home in another jurisdiction. Before you move, give notice, sign a lease or pay a fee, ask your current housing authority whether the move is local or portability, what steps and deadlines apply, and which agency must review the home. Postal city names can differ from municipal boundaries.
Prince George’s County · HAPGC
The Housing Authority of Prince George’s County publishes Housing Choice Voucher information, ZIP-code payment standards, moving instructions, current unit listings and landlord resources. Its published maximum limits include rent and utilities; proposed rent is reviewed for reasonableness and the unit must pass inspection.
Montgomery County · HOC
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County administers voucher programs in Montgomery County and publishes current program information. Confirm which standards apply to the exact ZIP code, bedroom size, utility responsibilities and voucher program.
Rockville · RHE and HOC
Rockville identifies Rockville Housing Enterprises (RHE) as the City’s independent public housing authority. HOC also operates voucher programs in Montgomery County. A Rockville mailing address alone does not establish which program or agency applies; ask the voucher issuer and the relevant authority about the specific address and any portability or program requirements.
Anne Arundel County · HCAAC and HACA
The Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County (HCAAC) serves county programs, while the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA) is a separate city authority. Program boundaries and special programs can differ. If the home is in or near Annapolis, confirm the full address, voucher issuer and applicable program with both the current and receiving agencies.
Charles County · Charles County Housing Authority
Use the County’s official housing authority page for current Housing Choice Voucher information and contacts. Confirm program availability, portability, bedroom standards, utility allowances and move procedures directly with the agency.
Questions to ask before you move
- Is the move within my current authority’s area or does it require portability?
- Who must send the portability packet, and what dates or documents apply?
- Which payment standard and utility allowance apply to the proposed address?
- What is the home’s bedroom eligibility, rent review and inspection sequence?
- What needs to happen before a lease can be signed or move-in can occur?
